Welcome to our 2013 Newport Folk Festival previews! In no particular order we’ll take a look at each line-up artist. Enjoy!

Jason Isbell has traveled a circuitous route to the 2013 NFF. A stint with the Drive by Truckers followed by a solo effort and a couple of excellent outings as ‘Jason Isbell and the 400 unit’ have resulted in a singer and songwriter with spectacular guitar skills who is sure to rock the stage at Newport!

Another product of an up and coming vibrant New England traditional folk, blues and Americana movement, you might see Jonah hanging out with a few Newport alums such as Brown Bird, Joe Fletcher (well, soon to be alum) and The Low Anthem. He’s got talent coming out his ears and is sure to leave quite an impression on those lucky enough to cross his path. Be sure to keep an eye out for his busking about the grounds of the old fort!

Graverobbers are local boys done good. Truth is, we are not terribly familiar with them but we really love what we’ve heard so far! Can’t wait to get some more from these guys!

Thanks to the Folk Festival and the Foundation, proper home grown talent has an outlet in the neighborhood.

This trio from North Carolina released a self titled album on Hometapes in 2011 that we have not been able to drop from the rotation. We are so glad that this talented production group has had the ability to assemble such an unbelievable line-up including one of our favorites.

Welcome to the Newport Stage Megafaun! I suspect we will see a return engagement. Once the salty sea spray hits your skin, you can’t wait to get back!

Wilco is making a very special appearance on Friday night in what we hope is the beginning of a new tradition. Jeff Tweedy and company bring with them a lengthy list of critical and professional acclaim including a couple of grammy awards.

It will be a beautiful night and a great way to kick off the weekend!

You may know The Nightwatchman from his terrific work with Rage Against the Machine or Audioslave. You might be lucky enough to also recognize him a true in every sense, folk artist and activist. Tom Morello, be it as The Nightwatchman with the Street Sweeper Social Club or through his work with the Axis of Justice seems like a man on a mission who has no need for such petty things as sleep. Let alone the fact that he is one of the greatest to ever pick up a guitar, the man is passionate and dedicated to his beliefs.

Really excited to see this tremendous human being make a return engagement to the Fort!

Of Monsters and Men are a really cool group of crazy talented Icelandic folks. Their vocals and songwriting help set them apart from many of the other players in the modern folk scene. They have been relentlessly touring the world over.

With a rash of sold out dates behind and in front of them, expect high energy from band and crowd alike at this showing!

Joel Rafael brings with more of an underlying theme at the festival this year and that is a celebration of the life and times of Woody Guthrie. Joel has released 2 albums of Woody material along some fantastic solo work. You might also occasionally catch him rubbing elbows and trading verses with Jackson Browne, David Crosby and Graham Nash.

A welcome addition to the stage in 2012!
